Outward Bound seeks members
The Canterbury Association of the Outward Bound Trust was badly in need of new members, said the chairman (Commander R. F. Sanderson) in his report to thp annual nifmtino’
Membership in Canterbury was only about 400, including 10 life members, he said.
This is not enough. The trust badly needs new members for their support and subscriptions. On a population basis, Canterbury should have 1000 members, which means that we are looking for 600 new members,” said Commander Sanderson.
More than 700 young people attended the Anakiwa Outward Bound school last year, but only 62 of them came from the Canterbury branch. Of these, 20 were
girls. “Most candidates are j sponsored by service clubs,! Government departments,! and local bodies,” Commander Sanderson said. But there was wide scope for sponsorship from private individuals, businesses, or •other organisations. However, sponsorship was inot necessary for someone to 'attend a course. Anyone, by paying the appropriate fee. from $l5O to $3OO, could attend.
Courses were available for • intellectually handicapped [ children, and for people aged more than 30, said Comi mander Sanderson. A, new chairman was ' elected for the coming year ■ —Mr M. D. Wright, who has ! been secretary for the branch. His telephone num- ■ ber is 884-406 for anyone re- • quiring information about • Outward Bound.
Mr R. C. Webb was reelected president. The new secretary is Mr P. McOscar, [a Christchurch City Council community adviser.
