Ski-ing.—South Africa has pulled out of the world waterski championships in Milan, Italy, today after protests by East European countries and a request for a withdrawal from the Italian Water Ski Federation.
Tennis.—Regina Marsikova, 18, of Czechoslovakia, surprised the second seed, Betty Stove, of the Netherlands, 6-4. 6-3, in the first round of the Charlotte women's classic in North Carolina.
