Ban on big cars sought
The Government should place an immediate embargo on rhe import of cars of excessive horsepower, Mr J. L. Hunt (Lab., New Lynn) said in Parliament. Speaking during the estimates debate, Mr Hunt said that a ban on cars of 3000 c.c. and more would
be an effective means of j conserving energy. Cars of up to 1725 c.c. had enough power for the needs of New Zealanders he said. Mr Hunt’s suggestion was rejected by the Min- ' ister of Energy Resources I (Mr Gair) who said it I showed no regard for people who lived on country roads.
