N.Z. pacer to stay in America

NZPA staff correspondent | MAX LAMBERT Washington The New Zealand trainer, Kevin Holmes, has abandoned plans to take his two-year-old pacer, Testing Times, home because of an outbreak of contagious genital infection in Britain.

Testing Times was to have' been flown to Britain a! couple of weeks ago for two months quarantine before returning to New Zealand. But the disease outbreak, which is known to have infected at least 20 studs in the Newmarket area of England. has put paid to that. Australia has put a temporary ban, effective until November 1, on horses imported from Britain and Ireland, and New Zealand is understood to have taken similar action. Holmes told NZPA he does not want to risk having Testing Times stranded across the Atlantic and has decided to keep the youngster in the United States.
