Square sounds

Sir. —After reading Rodney Bryant’s diatribe and his unveiled threat (“The Press,’’ August 28) I was grateful for the restrained comment of Mr Wesney, director of Radio Avon. Mr Bryant accused me of calling him a Yahoo. This I deny. Nor did 1, or could I have, applied the same term to the Mayor and Mayoress who, because of a prior appointment, did not arrive until 8.45 p.m.! Mr Bryant accused me of “skulking” in the Square. Heading for a meeting, I was crossing the Square when I heard the din, which was, on the path I took, unduly loud. A colleague was “hit” by the sound as he left the Avon car park, sheltered though it is by the A.M.P. building. Mr Wesney suggested I overreacted, but cavalier treatment of regulations adopted for the benefit of the majority tries the patience. There should not be a separate law for “powerful enemies.” — Yours, etc., W. J. A. BRITTENDEN. August 28, 1977.
