Union’s eye on clubs

The Canterbury branch of the Hotel Workers’ Union will take a hard line on sports clubs and other groups granted ancillary liquor licences in Canterbury. The assistant secretary of the union (Mr G. Harding) said that when and if licences were granted the successful clubs would receive notifications from the union informing them of

the industrial agreement which covered the employment of bar staff in such premises. The agreement, approved by the Industrial Commission last January, is binding on all clubs granted ancillary licences, even if they were not signatories. The approximate hourly rate for a bartender under the agreement is $2.50.
