Christmas stamps

The New Zealand Christmas stamps which will be released on October 5. The designs feature “The Holy Family,” by the 15th century Italian master, Corregio (7c), a stained glass window (16c), and a colourful partridge in a pear tree (23c). The 23c stamp was designed by a Christchurch designer and illustrator, Margaret Chapman, who designed last year’s 18c stamp.

This is Margaret Chapman’s fourth success as a stamp designer. She has also designed two sets of health stamps. Mrs Chapman found inspiration for her latest eyecatching design in the trar ditional Christmas melody, “Twelve Days of Christmas.” “It only took me a few days to dream it up and design it,” she said. “I used the theme because the melody is so well-known.”
