Queenspark Estate PARKLANDS
Less than a mile away, the blue Pacific with its welcoming beaches ... a northern boundary of tall pine trees, close by, magnificent Queen Elizabeth II Park with its world famous sports facilities . . . Three superb golf courses . . . and just ten minutes away, the centre of Christchurch city.
Services Parklands streets are pleasantly, imaginatively laid out, with underground wiring, fully serviced sections, sites for a shopping centre, two churches, two recreation reserves, plunket rooms, kindergarten and a medical centre. Two primary schools > have recently opened, and the South Island’s first community secondary school will be opened in 1982 in Parklands, on an 8 hectare site at the cost of $3.5 million dollars. The school shall be used by pupils in the daytime and the community at night. A temporary shop was provided ahead of time, and tennis courts are being laid.
Architectural Design The developers of Queenspark wish to preserve the character of the estate for the mutual benefit of all who come to live there, and to ensure the retention and ultimate increase in value of purchaser’s properties, to assist in preserving such acceptable standard, plans of buildings must be submitted for approval as to their external appearance only, and agreed minimum acceptable size. These requirements were made to encourage careful design & to create a harmony in the area between the buildings and their sites. Progress The rate of growth and prediction of at least 250 units a year, are better illustrated by the fact that it took from 1966 to 1973 to rezone and service the area, and that apart from isolated houses in Inwoods Rd & Mairehau Rd, it was not until 1974 that the first houses were completed.
