Tornado kills five

NZPA-Reuter Neoga (Illinois) Five people were killed and 60 injured when a tornado swirled through three caravan sites on an artificial lake near Neoga, Illinois, the police said yesterday. They said the storm cut a path of destruction one kilometre wide through the popular Lake Mattoon resort area about 290 km south-west of Chicago.

At least 45 mobile homes were reported destroyed and several dozen more were damaged in addition to heavy crop damage to several thousand hectares of corn and soybeans.
