I The Riccarton stablemates, iLady Lucifer and Nuriooipa, j showed they were making 'pleasing progress for spring (campaigns when they gali loped on the No. 1 grass at : Riccarton yesterday. i Nuriootpa was Riccarton’s (best winner last season, but Lady Lucifer had her three-; year-old programme affected by leg trouble, which required surgery. To judge from the dash she showed while running 800 m in 49sec yesterday. Lady Lucifer has recovered well, and she might be ini for a rewarding season fori George Humphries’s stable. Lady Lucifer’s 49sec was the best of the sprints in' yesterday’s training and it showed the recovery quali-| I ties of the No. 1 grass after j rolling and a spell of dry weather. Nuriootpa looked bright' and solid when he appeared yesterday to run 600 m ini 4l.2sec. He will be brought along’ steadily to be pointed for ' some of the feature shorter 1 races, including the Stew-i ards, at the New Zealand, Cup meeting. 1 Town and Country, a can--didate for the second leg of the Oamaru T.A.B. double,P yesterday ran 1400 m in Iminl 33 Bsec, and the last 800 tn in 51.
