. . . and imports
Three container-loads of citrus fruit will this week be distributed to homes for children and old people in Christchurch. The fruit was given by Auckland householders after a radio appeal calling for unwanted fruit. Oranges, lemons, and tangerines were picked from suburban backyards by people living all over Auckland. They were shipped free of charge by the New Zea-
land Shipping Corporation, two containers going to Dunedin and three to Christchurch. Christchurch’s three, which hold more than 600 9kg boxes of fruit, arrived at Lyttelton aboard the Coastal Trader on Monday morning. The fruit will be delivered to various orphanages, special schools, and homes for the handicapped later this week by members of Christchurch Lions clubs.
