‘Nothing to gain’

PA Dunedin Dominion Fertiliser Company customers have nothing to gain from pledging support for the farmer-based company of Ravensdown Fertiliser which is trying to beat Kempthorne Prosser’s take-over bid, K.P. said yesterday. K.P.’s chairman (Mr P. W. Fels) sent a special newsletter to South Island farmers yesterday in an attempt to quell any “disquiet" against his company’s bid. Service to customers of Dominion Fertiliser would be unaffected if the K.P. take-over was to succeed and a rebate scheme similar to Dominion’s would be introduced, Mr Fels said. “Widespread disquiet” that Ravensdown said farmers had felt because of the K.P. move was imaginary, said Mr Fels. Dominion’s customers had nothing to fear from the take-over and would gain nothing by supporting rhe new Ravensdown company.

The K.P. bid had been made after extensive studies into the industry, Mr Fels said. He belived that a fragmented industry could not possibly hold costs to the same extent as a strong entity.
