Board for mothers

Mothers asked to live-in with their ill children at hospitals may receive free accommodation and meals under a plan discussed yesterday by the institutions committee of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The mothers, who would be asked by hospital authorities to be with their children for therapeutic or medical reasons, would be accommodated at nurses’ hostels. Mothers who wanted to

stay voluntarily with their children or who elected to stay at board institutions through lack of other accommodation should be charged the normal rate for meals but should not be charged for accommodation, the committee recommended. The medical superinten-dent-in-chief (Dr L. McH. Berry) said that new wards at the hospital allowed six rooms for live-in accommodation for mothers.
