Chch skaters start well

PA Auckland Overseas experience has helped the brother and sister team of Alan and Anne Brennock (Christchurch) and 17-year-old Katie Symmonds (Auckland) to take the honours in the first round of their fight to capture titles at the national artistic ice skating championships in Auckland. Two titles were decided yesterday. B. Webb and L. Matthews, of Auckland, won the junior ice dancing title from the Invercargill entrants, Douglas Anderson and Katharine Lindsay.

Today, the two competitors in the senior women’s event will go through a short programme of freeskating. In the intermediate women’s compulsory figures championship yesterday Deirdre Sweeney, of Christchurch, was first. Two of her Centaurus club-mates, Lynn MacDonald and Yashin de Mulder, were placed fifth and sixth.
