Commissioner shows dash at Addington trials

By

G. K. YULE

Commissioner suggested a profitable early spring campaign with a dashing win at the Addington trials yesterday. He was quickly in front and was always master of the situation.

Commissioner raced in a relaxed manner in the early part, but later began to pul! fairly hard and was still under a hold at the line after recording 3min 37sec for the full distance. He took Imin 2.6 sec for the last 800 m, with the final 400 m in 30sec, a sound run as the horses raced a good 10m out from the rails.

Commissioner looks ready to show that his form in Brisbane in the autumn was all wrong and he will be a popular fancy in the main races at the national meeting, which opens on Saturday week.

Eclipse, which raced freelegged, settled second last and came on strongly to run Commissioner to a length. He too, looks ready for early racing. Dorothy Lopez, which was last until near the 400 m, came on resolutely for third, just ahead of Winning Smoke, with Trevino, Rebecca's

Pride and Saucy Jack next.i Nigel Craig made his firsti appearance for the season! a winning one. He sprinted! his last 800 m of an easy 2600 m in Imin 3.4 sec, with his final 400 m in 29.8 sec. He looks to be catrying plenty' of surplus condition. Now, which looks to be fast approaching her peak, was handy all the way and she got up to shade Von Rue, which did well for a horse in his class, and Alias Armbro, which broke after 300 m and came on steadily. Lifeline, a sound prospect at Oamaru on Monday, was not far away, fifth, ahead of Lord Rodney. DECISIVE Roydon Scott and Tribunal gained decisive wins in the heats for three-year-olds, races in which Noble Rick, Motu Prince and Locarno showed to advantage. Beaufort finished fourth in his, heat after being slow away. l

He should benefit from the run and could show up at the Kurow meeting, where the majority of his rivals are comparatively inexperienced. Hanover Reine recorded i one of the smartest runs of the day when she beat the Cl and C2 pacers pointlessly. She was wide early, and got to the front with about 1300 m left. From then on she had her rivals well covered and won convincingly by a length and a half. She took 3min 34sec for the 2600 m, the last 800 m in Imin 4sec, and the ( final 400 m in 31.6 sec. She> will resume racing at the national meeting and should show to advantage. Battle Lord, which is to race at Kurow, made ground steadily for second, clear of Armbro Dhu and Vitellia. Battle Lord looks well forward.

Sail Again, which is on a back mark in the Kurow Cup, put plenty of dash into his finish in the race for the

C 3 and C 4 pacers. He beat Sunseeker by two lengths, with Worthy Lord making up several lengths in the run home to finish third, ahead of Bronze Regal, Creanza and Whaa Hana, which broke at the 100 m. Hambidark and Our Tuft, which are to race at Kurow, had the finish of the race for slow-class trotters to themselves. Hambidark won by a nose, but Our Tuft looked to be going comfortably. Both should show up on Monday. Frivolous and Khan were next to finish, with Modem Min at the head of the others. Radiant Mac, Tara Drive, Outright and True Peterson shaped pleasingly, while Captain Forever looked a likely improver for Kurow. Results:—
