Woman held after murder

[NZPA-Reuter Frankfurt The German police have detained a woman in connection with the murder of the West German banker. Juergen Ponto, by suspected Leftwing extremists three days ago.

The Federal police bureau in Wiesbaden identified her as Eleonore Maria Poensgen, aged 23, and said she was suspected of involvement in the murder.

The police are looking for four women and a man in connection with the killing last Saturday, but Mrs Poensgen’s name was not on the wanted list.

The police said two women and a man killed Mr Ponto, 53-year-old chief of the Dresdner Bank, at his home near Frankfurt after an attempt to kidnap him failed.

The daughter of a family friend of the Pontos, Susanne Albrecht, aged 23, Mr Pontos god-daughter, was named as the chief suspect.
