Lion out of Chatham Cup
PA Wellington Lion Breweries have pulled out of sponsoring soccer's prestige knock-out competition. the Chatham Cup. This year’s contest, which has reached a gripping semi-finals stage, will be the last to be breweries backed. “Lion have explained to us that they are putting more money into sport generally, par tlcularly coaching?’ said Mr Terry Killalea. the New Zealand Football Association's acting chairman.
“In the four years they base held the Chatham Cup sponsor ship, they have been a good benefactor, and the parting is entirely amicable.” he said. Mr Killalea said that the N.Z.F.A. had nobody specifically in mind to take on sponsirship of the competition, which was established in 1923
