Squires out of tour?

PA Pukekohe The English winger Peter Squires may not play again on the British Lions’ tour of New Zealand.

The Lions’ manager, Mr George Burrell, said last evening that Squires’s injured hamstring was proving troublesome, and that it was extremely doubtful he would play again on the tour. There was better news about test winger John Williams, however. Mr Burrell said that Williams was making tremendous progress, and that the player himself was delighted about the way his thigh muscles injury was healing.

If Squires is out of the tour the Lions will have a wing problem for the fourth test, because Gareth Evans has not justified his lest spot. The solution might be for Andy Irvine to be switched to the wing, as he was on the Lions* tour of South Africa in 1974. and for Bruce Hay to come in as full-back.
