Aust. batsmen pile on runs
NZPA Nottingham The Australian opening batsman. Rick McCosker, continued on his determined way in the third test against England last night, and was 78 not out at lunch. At lunch Australia was 179 for three. McCosker reached his second half century of the match early on the fourth morning. McCosker, 40 not out on Sunday reached his 50 with a hook off Bob Willis 10 minutes after the start. That shot also wiped out the Australian deficit of 121 runs from the first innings
Then McCosker and David Hookes settled down to continue their fruitful partnership. The England break through came in Hendrick’s seventh over of the morning. After having one confident lbw appeal turned down lie managed to get a delivery' to straighten up and Hookes was Happed in front tor 42.
The Australian total was then 154 for three, and the partnership ended .six runs short of 100. Scores:— AUSTRALIA First Innings ~ 241 Second innings R McCosker not out 71 I.
