Alcohol and TV
Sir, — Concerning your article on the “Lion” advertisement on TV, (“The Press.” July 29) may I congratulate Dr D. R. Hay on his protest at the “flagrant breach of the rules governing the advertising of liquor on radio and T.V.” Several years ago when such advertising was suggested, amid the public outcry that it aroused, the then Minister of Broadcasting stated that the matter had been closely investigated and had been decided against “in the public Interest.” The crime and accident rate in any community is in direct ratio to the consumption of alcohol in that community. Under these circumstances it is obvious that any further stimulation of the consumption of alcohol will aggravate a serious problem. — Yours, etc., A. J. MacCLURE. July 30. 1977.
