Young Farmer of Year finalists
Four young farmers have qualified for the final of the SkeHerup Young Farmer of the Year contest. The finalists are Jeremy Neild, Dargaville; Keith Holmes, Cambridge; John Rickard, Ashburton; John Webster, North Otago. These four have come to the top out of more than 1000 young farmers who have taken part in earlier stages of the contest. The judges for the final include Mr P. G. Morrison, the president of North Canterbury Federated Farmers.
This year’s winner earns the biggest prize ever offered in New Zealand for a contest of its kind. Worth more than $11,500, it consists of a Fiat 540 tractor, $5OO in cash, and a return trip for two to Singapore flying by Air New Zealand and staying six days at the Hyatt Hotel. The runner-up receives a Honda CT9O farm bike and the other two finalists a Dolman 122 chain saw. The final will be held in Hamilton next Thursday, August 4, when the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, will be the guest speaker.
