Mexicano injured
NZPA Sydney The New Zealand steeplechaser, Mexicano. has injured his near hind leg and will not be running in the $20,000 A. V. Hiskens Steeplechase (3600 m at Moonee Valley, Melbourne, tomorrow. The nine-year-old cut the leg when he put it through a fence while having a roll after working at Flemington on Wednesday. Infection has set in, but the injury is not serious, according to the jockey, Owen Aiming. “We brought him over just for the Hiskens and he had never been titter,” Anning said. “It’s just unfortunate this has happened so close to the race.” Mexicano. which arrived in Melbourne two weeks ago and has yet to race in this Australian campaign, is expected to stay in Melbourne until after the Melbourne Cup Carnival in November.
