C.W.I. awards
PA Nelson The New Zealand Country Women’s Institute has awarded its annual medical scholarship to a Dunedin home science student.
The scholarship was awarded to Miss Ruth Dunlop at the organisation’s Dominion representative annual meeting in Nelson yesterday. Miss Dunlop will use the scholarship for her project on research into salt intake.
She plans to work with Dr Joan McKenzie, the C.W.l.’s first recipient of its medical research scholarship. Miss Dunlop is at the school of home science in Dunedin, and plans to either continue her studies with post-graduate work or become a dietitian. She would like eventually to use her training to work on applied nutrition in developing count ,es.
The institute’s meeting yesterday also included the presentation of gold honour badges to five of its long serving members. The badges are presented each year to members nominated by their branches. It is the highest award in the C.W.L and made for outstanding and long service to the organisation. This year’s recipients are: Mrs Lorna Bates (North Hokianga), Mrs Mary Bishell (Marlborough), Miss Phylis Grant (South Otago), Mrs Irene Herrick (Southern Hawke’s Bay) Mrs Majorie Hutchinson (Murchison).
