Youth hostel medal
i PA Wellington The treasurer of the Youth Hostels Association (Mr James McKie, of Christchurch) has been presented with the Richard Schirrmann medal by the German Youth Hostels Association for his w'ork in promoting the movement in New' Zealand and the development of youth rambling and travel internationally.
The medal was presented! ■in Wellington by the West’ ; German Charge d’Affairsl ! (Mr Werner Schmitz). The medal is named after; i the German schoolteacher i whose trips for pupils about j 11910 led to the establish- ■ 'ment of youth hostels. ; Mr McKie is the second j [New Zealander to have been ; awarded the medal. <
