Legal problems tie boat in port
Legal battles still rage over the stately form of the 40ft ketch Suzy Q — which has been held at Lyttelton for nearly three months with a warrant for her arrest taped to her mast. A Christchurch lawyer (Mr T. M. Abbott), who has acted as the local agent for an American bank which seeks more than $lO,OOO in outstanding debts on the yacht, said yesterday that there were “a few legal things’’ going on at the moment. He declined to elaborate, but said that the matter had not been sorted out, and there was some likelihood that the lone Pacific yachtsman, Mr Omar Hansen, who owns the boat, might lose it. Mr Hansen, an American, spent six months sailing the 40-year-old Suzy Q by stages across the Pacific single-handed, without self-steering gear. i He has since returned to the [United States, and has negotiated with the bank to recover his boat. However, it is believed that the bank is only interested, in a full settlement of the debt. ARRIVALS Texaco Bombay (2.2 p.m.), 13.500. Bahrein (U.S.S.). Marama (6.58 a.m.), 4510. Capt. M.
