Children's Fund activities have increased
Most sections of the North Canterbury branch of the Save the Children Fund’s activities have increased this year, the president (Mrs P. A. Henson) said in Christchurch. Mrs Henson told the S.C.F. annual meeting that in the present economic climate this showed how hard the committee and friends had worked and how generous had been the support of the people of the area. She said the money was needed more than ever betause of the major earthquakes in Lebanon and Rumania. “So much long term work develops from a sudden cry for help. The fund, like all peoples of the world, finds
rising costs a constant problem, so that we need to contribute more to achieve the same level of aid as last year,” she said. Mr G. H. Hall reported that Christmas-card trading had again been successful despite last year’s massive increase in postal charges and the less-buoyant econ-1 omy. “I do not believe we have I already passed the peak of. profitability from sales of | Christmas cards. This is borne out by the fact that' shops in Christchurch have; already ordered considerably' more cards, both in value' and numbers, than ever before." he said.
