Redundancy agreement
Agreement has been reached between the Christchurch Drainage Board and the Canterbury branch of the Engineers’ Union on redundancy payments for two shift engineers who will become redundant when the board automates a pumping station at Bromley next year. The agreement ends nearly four months of negotiation and ends a black ban on the station imposed by the Canterbury Trades Council in support of the engineers. The ban was on the installation of new equipment for automation.
The agreement must now be ratified by the Industrial Commission. The parties have agreed to a joint approach to the National Prol vident Fund over unresolved ! claims for superannuation.
