Picton nestling in Queen Charlotte Sound
Stop at Koromiko
Heading ferrywards? Driven non-stop from Christchurch? Time for a break before arriving at Picton. The place to stop, of course, is at Koromiko, just a few kilometres before reaching Picton. Drop in at the Koromiko Service Station and while the attendant is filling your tank (saves the hassle of filling at Wel-
lington), there is time for filling the inner man inside in the station’s airy tea rooms. They serve beautifully-fresh sand-
wiches, cakes and pies. A chance to stretch the legs, too. After looking after car and calories, a quiet wander up the road towards Picton leads to
the Koromiko Park Motels (great place to stay overnight) and the Coiiins Memorial Deer Park (pictured above), where various species of deer and chamois are in full view in an enclosed area. This is a very refreshing break and one which can be recommended for travellers from the mid and deep south.
