Potential training centre
' pa Waipukurau I Waipukurau might be turned (into a racehorse training centre. IA committee of the Waipukurau District Council, hearing objections to a planned change in a district scheme, was told that the Waipukurau Jockey Club and :the district had an asset of great potential in the Waipukurau racecourse.
Hastings was spreading with more residential development land the trainers there would have to move in time, the hearing w r as told. There had already been eight or nine inquiries about using the Waipukurau track. The Woodville track wae close to its maximum usage. The Waipukurau track could be upgraded to allow for winter racing, and the Racing Authority would help with the upgrading, jockey club representatives said.
The authority was now grading all tracks in New Zealand and the Waipukurau facility, which hosts only two meetings a .year, would probably be turned into a training track. The jockev club was objecting to a Waipukurau District Council plan to change the minimum size for rural land from four hectares (10 acres) to 20ha (50 acres).
