Stan Graham

Sir,—On Saturday, July 2, I was dumbfounded to hear on Spectrum (national radio) the account of the Graham murders at Kowhitirangi in the early 19405. Two years ago when this programme was first suggested I wrote objecting to the head of programmes in Wellington, on behalf of the bereaved families and settlers, many of whom my family had known about 20 years. This letter was ignored. Even today I still cannot understand what purpose was served by reliving the horror of those weeks in a peaceful farming district. Months before the tragedy, my father received head injuries from Stan Graham over an account from head office of which he knew nothing. Battered as he was, he drove 40 miles home to Greymouth after this incident —how, I still do not know.—SHIRLEY G. HARDING (nee Oliver), Lobum.
