Bush plumps for Maori name
By
RAY CAIRNS
A pride in his heritage has prompted the All Black prop forward, Bill Bush, to ask that he be known in future by his correct baptismal name.
Named at birth Kingi Ta Te Pohe Bush — and even the surname, Bush, does not bear close scrutiny, though the player is prepared to accept it — the Hawke’s Bay youngster was frequently called Bill, after his father.
“It stuck,” said Bush yesterday, “and this has hurt because 1 am always known at home, and among the
All Bltteks, as Kingi or King.”
So, as far as "The Press” is concerned, W. K. Bush will in future be known as Kingi Bush.
