Motorists register promptly

; Most motorists appear to (have relicensed in time: (traffic officers have issued very few tickets for unregisterred vehicles since June 30. The motor registration branch of the Post Office in Christchurch has no wav of knowing how many’ motorists have yet to register. It can only compare this year’s total registrations with last year’s; this shows that 24 fewer registrations have been made this year: 150,642 compared with 150,666. This did not appear to reflect the rise in the number of new cars, but owners might have shifted from Christchurch, said a branch spokesman.

The registration counter was “very quiet” yesterday, said the supervisor, Mr W. Butterworth.

The Ministry of Transport (has not collated traffic ■ offence figures for unregistered vehicles since June 30, ;but it thinks the deadline 'was generally observed.
