Boy killed in car

PA Kaikohe A boy was killed and two men are in the Rawene Hospital after their car hit a power pole and transformer near Opononi. The boy was Raymond James Hau, aged 12, of Omapere. The driver of the car, Mr F. Hadfield, and a passenger, Mr G. Shelford, both of Onapere, are in the Rawene Hospital, in satisfactory conditions. A large area of south Hokianga was blacked out as a result of the power pole’s being damaged.
