Hockey stars to rest
Barry Maister and John Christensen, two of the key players in the Canterbury hockey team, will have a deserved rest this Sunday, when two teams from the province meet North Otago and South Canterbury at Timaru. Both players have played an average ->f two games a week since the start of the season, and the selectorcoach, Cyril Walter, does not want to over-burden them with the Rothmans national tournament still six weeks away. Mr Walter has chosen sides of equal ability for the matches on Sunday, and they
will be captained by Selwyn Maister and Tony Ineson.
High School Old Boys players were not considered because they will play their Philips Cup quarter-final at Wanganui on Saturday. Both Canterbury teams are likely to win their matches comfortably — an indication of the strength of the sport in the province. The teams are:
v North Otago: M. Fitzsimons; R. Pettet, N. R. Coster; A. Chesney, Ineson (captain), P. D. Ackerley; N. Edmundson, S. Ambler, G. Camoutsos, A. Borren, M. Burtt.
