Weather foils coach

The first visit to Christchurch of the national cycling coach, Max Vertongen, has been interrupted by the poor weather, and may be foiled altogether. Vertongen was due in Christchurch today, to talk at Shirley Boys’ High School this afternoon and to a joint meeting of the Papanui and Kaiapoi clubs this evening. Those two meetings have definitely been postponed. He has scheduled meetings at Papanui High School (morning) and with the Hornby and Woolston clubs (evening) tomorrow; a similar programme with Bumside High School and Mairehau Novice Wheelmen on Thursday; and meetings with Rangiora, Hornby, and Riccarton high schools on Friday.

If Vertongen cannot arrive in Christchurch by this evening, it is possible the complete week will be postponed, and rescheduled, perhaps about a week later. He was to have started his South Island tour yesterday in Blenheim.
