Mixed trading in Australia

The Australian share ' market was quite active , through the afternoon trad- ’ ing session, but shares were in general steady to lower. I Keenei interest was shown in retail stores with Woolworths up 3c to 150 c, Myer up 2c to 198 c, and : Waltons gaining 2c to 78c, The banks also attracted buyers with the ANZ up 5c ■ to 367 c, the National up 4c i to 289 c and the Wales ( steady at 520 c after being ; down two cents in earlier ( trading. BHP finished 4c down at i 640 c, and CSR lost 2c at ■ 343 c. i Pancontinental was up 60c i to 1190 c on the mining ! boards (after selling at 1200 c i in early trading) and Kath- i leen Investments rose 6c to , 172 c. i Ampol Ex was up 2c to . 106 c, but Woodside fell 2c ( to 83c. Base-metal shares at- ' traded some attention, but most finished the day down. ' North Broken Hill was a cent lower at 111 c, and CRA

was 2c lower at 328 c. , Mt Isa finished 2c down at 218 c. Hamersley was ' steady on 305 c. Peko Wallsend gained 8c to 598 c.
