New award in cricket
The Akaroa Cricket Club h;-,s instituted a new' award in memory of Ken Wadsworth, the former New Zealand cricket player, who died last August.
A handsome wooden trophy, with the figure of a batsman mounted on top. it is awarded for general sportsmanship and participation in club activities.
The winner of the trophy this year was George Prattley and it was presented at the club's annual dinner. Two other awards presented were won by an 18-year-old, Terry Orr. He won the Peter Sisson award — a cricket bat — for the most improved junior player, and the Norm Allen Memorial Cup for the best fielder in the Banks Peninsula. Association's doublewicket tournament.
The dinner was cause for a full celebration. This year the senior team won the competition and the Kinloch Cup. Its previous success was 17 years ago.
