All races at S.A. university
NZPA-Reuter Cape Town Black and Coloured stu-• dents will be admitted to the formerly all-white Univer-i sity of Stellenbosch, a university spokesman has said. | The spokesman said that.! in line with a decision by ; the university council and the senate of the university.; near Cape Town, it would admit students of all races to postgraduate degree courses. Coloured, black and Asian students would also be admitted to undergraduate course-, but only if the courses were not offered at their respective state universities, he said. The admission of nonwhite students would be subject to the approval of the Minister concerned. Activitie. on the campus would have to conform to Government po -y, h< said. The admission of students would continue to be such as to retain the character of the university as an Afrik a a n s-language educational centre for whites, he said. In Johannesburg, South Africa’s riot police have said that they have perfected a new weapon; a “sneeze machine” which sprays crowds with a mixture talcum powder and tear gas. The device is installed in a Land-Rover which sprays the mixture through a jet mounted on the roof. Genera! David Kriel said the effect of the mixture was about the same as teargas. “except that it settles on the clothes of the crowd, and the wearer is torced to go home and change.”
