Woolston leads soccer
Woolston W.M.C. retained its two-point lead at the top of the Broadlands Southern League soccer table when it beat Invercargill Thistle, 2-1, on Saturday. Woolston met stubborn resistance from the Invercargill team. Woolston’s goals were scored by Rikki Koster and, almost inevitably. Stan McGaflin, who added to his impressive tally this season. Chris Ward scored for Thistle. Technical beat Cashmere Wanderers, 2-0, but the Cashmere team put up a spirited performance and was not disgraced. Rob Camphens and Warren Qulrke were Technical'* scorers. Rangers won a rough match at Timaru against Northern Hearts, 3-1, with goals coming from Luke Camphens. Mark Lanauze and Malcolm Parker. Hearts scored through a Michael Kej s penalty after Arie Schoute, who was later ordered off, had been brought dow-n in the penalty area. Two goals by John Brand and one by Peter Schuyt gave Shamrock an easy win, 3-1, over Roslyn-Wakarl tn Dunedin. The margin could have been much greater, the cross-bar being hit on four occasions. In Dur.edm Mosgiel beat North End United 3-2. Matches in the Broadlands qualifying competition resulted Burndale United t, Papanui W.M.C. 1; Christchurch United 0, New Brighton 2: Halswel!
