Dr Holloway dead
Dr J. T. Holloway, a former director of the Forest Research Institute station at Rangiora, died on Friday evening. He was 62. Dr Holloway was well known for a major survey of New Zealand’s timber resources he undertook soon after World War 11. The 10year long survey led to another major project, the mountain forests examination. Since the end of last year, Dr Holloway had been in semi-retirement, collating a booklet on forestry. Born in Oxford, Dr Holloway was educated at Waitaki Boys’ High School, Otago University, and London University. During World War 11, he served in the 11th Forestry Company of the Corps of Royal New Zealand Engineers in Britain. After the war, he worked as a chemist at the Mataura paper mill. He is survived by his wife and seven children.
