Lacklustre game in Sydney
NZPA Sydney Australia scored five tries to one in its 21-9 win over France at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. In a dull, uninspiring game that lacked atmosphere, Australia was a class ahead of the Frenchmen. The Frenchmen, supposed to be the best side the country has fielded for 10 years, fell well short of their pre-match publicity. They tried hard and they never gave up, but showed their lack of international class. The star of the Australian side was the full-back, Graham Eadie, who turned in a devastating first-half effort. Eadie ran in two tries and had a hand in one scored by th'e prop Denis Fitzgerald to give Australia a 13-0 halftime lead and virtually secure a place in the world series final on June 25.
Although Australia was clearly the better team and ran in five tries to one the coach, Terry Fearnley, was far from impressed by the team’s performanue in front of a crowd of only 13,200.
