Kumeu trainer killed
PA Auckland A Kumeu trotting trainer, Alan John Bachelor, was killed yesterday afternoon when the truck in which he was travelling collided with a goods train. He was aged 30. The accident happened at a level crossing in Boord Crescent, Kumeu. only a few metres from where Mr Bachelor’s horses are stabled. Born in the South Island. Mr Bachelor received his grounding iin the trotting game through I working for the leading Canterbury trainers, Derek Jones, Jack Smolensk] and Cecil Devine. He moved north in 1369 and worked for the Kumeu trainer. Tom Knowles, for three : ears. During that period he enjoyed good success with the pacer, Johnny Alone, with whom he won six races in partnership with Tom Knowles before selling the horse to the United States. He branched out as a public trainer some four seasons ago and prepared mainly a small team. ____
