Toft awards The trustees of the Bill Toft Memorial Fund have announced that the first awards, a trophy and a memorial award, will be made this year. Bill Toft was one of New Zealand’s best-known broadcasters. and a memorial fund was set up by his friends and colleagues in the industry. Nominations for the trophy — to be awarded to the best radio or televison communicator — will be submitted by an
independent academy, but broadcasting staff have been invited to apply for the Bill Toft Memorial Award, worth $3OO, and intended for study aimed at furthering skills in broadcasting. Requests Television One's “Top of the Morning,” a request session screening on Saturday mornings at 11.55, is receiving letters at the rate of 50 a day. Most of the “requests” are for
snippets from comedy shows or musical variety series, according to the directors. John Harrison and Peter Craven. .2 per cent Of more than 2000 questions used in last year's production of "University Challenge,” only two were queried. Televison One says the questions were originally bought from the 8.8. C., but were judged to be British oriented. Wayne Cameron, with the help of a couple of retired professors, did the research and compiled most of the questions used on TVl's version of the programme.
