Fire cuts power
About 50 houses in Clyde Road and Greers Road were without power yesterday after a cable box caught fire about 1.40 p.m. About 100 m of cable were destroyed and power to parts of the two streets had to be shut off.
A Municipal Electricity Department spokesman said that the same houses were also without power for two hours in the morning when trouble developed at an electricity kiosk in Clyde Road at 6.30 a.m.
Power was restored just after 8.30 a.m. but, when the kiosk was switched back on, the cable box exploded. Power was restored by 3.15 p.m.
