Partnership for Portions

Special Correspondent Auckland

Roy Purdon and his son Barry are to train in partnership from the start of next season.

The leading trainer in New Zealand this term, Roy Purdon is at present in the United States campaigning Tuteena, Lou Foyle, Mabella and Hey Dryden. Horses in his stable at Clevedon engaged at Hutt Park on Saturday will continue to race in his name but soon afterwards the period allowed under the rules for him to be the official trainer will have expired. For the remaining meeting in the North Island this season, the New Zealand Juvenile Championship fixture at Alexandra Park, the team will e be trained by Barry Purdon. Purdon has a lead of four over the Cambridge combination of Kevin Holmes and Colin Butler in the national premiership. Both stables will be represented at Hutt Park.

Purdon’s main hope is the Rowe Cup winner, Framalda which is in the main race, the A. J. Cunningham.

Under the invitation condition covering the race, Framalda is exceptionally well placed on 10m. Nigel Craig which she beat when giving him 10m in the Rowe Cup • is on 30m.

Framalda, which has done splendidly since the Rowe Cup, according to Barry Purdon, will be driven at Hutt Park bv Peter Wolfenden who will also drive Golcres. Purdon will pilot Tudoress. The good Christchurch two-year-old Don’t Linger was left with the Purdon stable after the Rowe Cup meeting and will be a contender for New Zealand Juvenile Championship honours-
