One of 16 coal bunkers to be used at the Huntly power station, south of Auckland, after it was put together in a trial assembly at Wigram Engineering, Ltd, Sockburn. Wigram Engineering is a subsidiary of New Zealand

Structures Holdings, Ltd, which won the contract for the station’s bunker structure against local and overseas competition. The bunkers, each 20m high, are prefabricated from 28 components, and when they are the right way up

they can carry' 800 tonnes of coal. Most of the 6000 tonnes of structural steel being used was imported from Japan. Each of the four generators at Huntly will burn more than 100 tonnes of coal an hour.
