LUCAS HEIGHTS - NEAR SYDNEY LEANER lIOIOCICAI SERVICES SECTION An e»perienced biologist is requireO to establish a now Section at the A-A.E.C.'s Research Establishment at Lucas Heights. The research programme at Lucas Heights 'dudes a number of biological projects and the position tails for a scientist who will contribute to these projects and who will assume responsibility for the technical services needed to support them, including the super vision of staff and the maintenance of laboratories and other facilities. The successful applicant will be able to introduce and develop new lines of work in areas relevant to the interests of the Commission. Current work includes histology, haematology, microbiology and the associated testing procedures required for research, production and quality control for radiopharmaceuticals, studies of the toxic effects of uranium-containing and other dusts, the toxicity of heavy metals to fish, and radiobiological research whicn it is hoped will be expanded. The person appointed may also be asked to contribute to biological aspects of the Commission's environmental research programme.- Excellent support facilities are available including germ-free rodent colonies and an SPF animal house for rodents Applicants should have a background of research experience with laboratory animals, including histology, pathology and microbiology, and must possess a Ph.D •or post-graduate experience of equivalent standard and duration) supported by satisfactory evidence of research ability. Salary dependng upon qualifications and experience will be within the range.
