‘President for sale’

NZPA Washington The former President of the United States, Mr Gerald Ford, and his family stand to make as much as S3M in the next few years as a result of his White House experience, according to his press secretary, Mr Jerry terHorst.

Mr terHorst, who resigned as press secretary in protest at Mr Ford’s pardon of Mr Richard Nixon, made the claim in an article in the current edition of “Free Enterprise” magazine entitled “Our 38th President is for sale.”

TerHorst said that Ford would get about SIM to participate in one or two N.8.C.TV documentaries and special news events each year for the next five years. He said that Ford’s wife, Betty, would get $500,000 for participating in two television shows and will be paid for periodic appearances on the “Today” show. Ford would get another SIM from Harper and Row and "Reader’s Digest” for his and his wife’s memoirs. More cash would come from speeches, personal appearances, and his Presidential and Congressional pensions.
