Entertainer’s fourth conviction
PA Auckland An entertainer, Larry Morris Sturdy, aged 29, yesterday had his fourth drug conviction, while still on parole, after serving a prison sentence for the third. Sturdy, a finalist in last year’s Entertainer of the Year award, admitted possessing a small quantity of cannabis at a Heme Bay’ flat on May 17. He was convicted by Mr P. M. Browne, S.M., and remanded on bail to June 15 for a probation report and sentence.
The Magistrate said he took a serious view of the matter because of Sturdy’s previous convictions. : Counsel later said there were two cannabis possession offences in 1970 and 1971, [and a 1972 charge of possessing LSD for supply, for which Sturdy’ was given a seven-year prison sentence.
Epilepsy appeal The Canterbury Epilepsy ■Association raised $3500 in its street appeal last Friday. The president of the association (Mrs D. Gowans) said [that counting had not been j completed until yesterday, and members were pleased, i “It is about $5OO up on last 'year’s figure,” Mrs Gowans I said.
