Emergency at port
Lyttelton’s No. 3 jetty was evacuated about 3.15 p.m. yesterday after a suspected cyanide leak was discovered in the fore hatch of the freighter Emebank. Two fire tenders from Lyttelton and a third from Woolston, attended the spillage. However, firemen equipped with breathing apparatus who inspected the hold found lubrication oil had been spilled on top of a drum of cyanide giving the impression that the drum had ruptured.
